Performer Description
Cory Howard wants to reimagine the role of the storyteller. Passionate about centering the audience in the narrative and nudging storytelling beyond its preconceived boundaries, Cory hopes to subvert expectations so that anticipation gives way to participation leading to brand new collective experiences. Cory has performed at the National Storytelling Festival, is a Moth Grand Slam winner and has an M.A. in Storytelling from East Tennessee State University where his original show, The Campfireball, was awarded ‘Outstanding Capstone Project’.

Showcase Description
Imagine if Mr. Rogers hosted Double Dare, The Campfireball is a one-of-a-kind live show created spontaneously out of the stories and experiences of the people in the audience, or, 'reverse-storytelling'. Workshopped and developed in the storytelling master's program at East Tennessee University, what separates The Campfireball from traditional storytelling or even story slams (eg. the Moth), is that instead of asking an audience to sit and watch passively, as the host of The Campfireball I explore different ways to spark and incentivize both audience sharing and listening, generating connection, surprise and a little tiny community. By the end, we've met at the intersection of intimacy and absurdity to build a brand new story -- the story of this audience, in this place and time. Oh, and introverts: fear not! Participation is always voluntary and it is just as much fun (and important, and validating, etc, etc...) to hear to someone's story as it is to share.

Any
Community & Educational Outreach
This program itself can port over to any community group or organization. Senior centers, schools, libraries, detention centers, etc. would all be a great fit for story-sharing/listening experiences. The style of the program would simply be tailored to that group, for example creating a special STEM content based sharing event for a school.
Additionally, with a master's in Storytelling, I also offer several storytelling/arts based/professional development workshops on topics such as:
-Storytelling as a craft (personal, traditional, etc)
-How listening to stories can save the world
-Developing framing devices to strengthen your ideas
-Inviting the audience in to your work
-Devising: how to take an idea from conception to creation
Is an outreach performance included in your mainstage performance fee?
Yes, the number of performances is negotiable based on the needs of the organization but generally I am up to help out as much as I can.
Other Offerings
Residencies,Workshops,Master Classes,School Programming,Christmas Shows,Lectures/Speakers
Promotion Publicity
I am generally game for whatever will help out the organization, I enjoy getting out in to the community and being an extension/mouthpiece of my program. I post regularly about events on social media, enjoy making posters and flyers when necessary, and love doing podcast/radio appearances.
