Performer Description
"This trio’s stylistic genesis–as well as title–stems from the realization that the great heritage of strings (guitars and violins) originates mutually with the Manouche gypsies of France and the no-less virtuosic hillbilly pickers and fiddlers of Oklahoma and Texas. [Hot Club of Cowtown] showed from the beginning that jazz and country music could exist together on the same page, a highly commendable achievement if ever there was one.
-Will Friedwald, Wall Street Journal

Showcase Description
The Hot Club of Cowtown--a trio of violin, guitar, upright bass and vocal harmonies--has been touring worldwide for almost thirty years. The band's live show blends the traditional 1930s Western swing of Bob Wills and Milton Brown with European hot jazz traditions from the same era and includes cowboy tunes, Western swing, fiddle tunes, hoedowns, reels, traditional Eastern European folk songs, American Songbook standards and the band's own original material inspired by these influences.
Inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame in 2004 and voted Ameripolitan Western Swing Group of the Year in 2015, the Hot Club of Cowtown has toured with Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan and represented traditional American music around the world, from Azerbaijan to the Sultanate of Oman, on behalf of the U.S. State Department. After fourteen well-regarded studio albums and a devoted global following, it is the relentless passion of the band’s live shows that remain its continuing trademark.

The band's schedule is in flux and shows are being added all the time. There is no time of year the band would not be interested in touring in Montana, and would welcome the opportunity to get to Montana more than once or twice a year. In 2026 the band is booked in Alaska, California, Missouri, and other states in the earlier part of the year (January - March), but much of they year beyond that time is still open and band is highly flexible and motivated to play for MPAC showcase attendees.
Community & Educational Outreach
Over the years the band has performed all kinds of outreach performances, from tiny village halls in Azerbaijan, orphanages in Armenia to student workshops in west Texas or school programs in Butte. We've done educational workshops at the Folk Alliance in Kansas City, as well as at arts centers including the Django Reinhardt festival at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA, and many many more. Our workshops are tailored to those who are interested--we can do workshops for individual instrumentalists, band workshops with all three of us together, general Q and A, pre-show talks, demonstrations, etc. We especially enjoy interactive outreach with young musicians, or ways that people can dance or sing or otherwise participate in our music.
Is an outreach performance included in your mainstage performance fee?
Outreach performances are not included and could average $500 - $1000 depending on duration, purpose, and communities served. The band loves to put on educational workshops, as well as to play at schools, for communities of older people (who know and love our music!), community events, etc. We have no limits on the kinds of outreach we enjoy doing.
