Strategic Plan 2025-2030

Planning for a Stronger Performing Arts Ecosystem

The Montana Performing Arts Consortium’s Strategic Plan provides a roadmap for strengthening Montana’s performing arts ecosystem over the coming years. It reflects both MPAC’s long history of collaboration and the evolving realities facing artists, presenters, and arts organizations today.

Developed through a structured planning process that included analysis of organizational history, field trends, and extensive stakeholder input, the plan articulates clear priorities for how MPAC will support arts access, professional sustainability, and community connection across the state.

Need for a Strategic Plan

Montana’s performing arts community operates in a rapidly changing environment. Shifts in funding, audience behavior, technology, and touring practices—along with the unique challenges of geography and rural access—require thoughtful, coordinated responses.

MPAC’s Strategic Plan helps the organization:

  • Focus its resources where they can have the greatest impact

  • Respond proactively to challenges facing the field

  • Strengthen collaboration among artists, presenters, and partners

  • Advocate effectively for the value of the performing arts in Montana communities

Rather than standing still or relying solely on past models, the plan positions MPAC to adapt, grow, and lead with intention.

Looking Toward the Future

At the heart of the Strategic Plan is a long-term vision for Montana’s performing arts sector—one in which live performance is recognized, valued, and supported as a vital contributor to quality of life, local economies, and community wellbeing.

Our Vision for 2030

In 2030, the MPAC network will be recognized, valued, and supported as an important economic driver and a crucial tool for elevating quality of life for all Montanans.

The plan outlines strategic focus areas that guide MPAC’s work, including:

  • strengthening organizational capacity

  • growing and supporting a diverse membership network

  • advancing arts advocacy

  • connecting more Montanans with opportunities to experience live performance

This document serves as a practical tool for decision-making, partnership development, and accountability, helping ensure that MPAC’s programs and initiatives remain aligned with its mission and responsive to the needs of the field.
